The Offending Posts Commentary Thread

I agree entirely. Which is why it's such a shame that those on the right (at least on Huskerboard) seem to have such a higher propensity for being immature, trolling, unable to deal in facts, resorting to personal attacks and ad hominem defenses, etc.

I have a friend who I've been trying to convince to come over here from Sherdog to post his thoughts in P&R.  He's well spoken, intelligent and abides by board rules like not trolling or cursing or racism or bigotry etc.  He is a staunch Republican.  I want this because I want to see someone who I know can behave tread the waters to see if he gets the Ric Flair treatment or if he is accepted for his opposing view.

TGHusker has no problem in the P&R forums, and he's likely the most openly conservative person posting there these days. BRB is conservative about a lot of topics, and he's lasted there forever. It's all how you approach the discussion. I'll bet your friend would be quite welcome.

In some respects there are a lot of us, like me, who have even transitioned from quite conservative ideas into more liberal ones and vice versa. This board has seen me grow and change a lot. Just like probably 4-5 years ago for example, I would have been outspoken against gay marriage, homosexuality as being okay in general, people having transgender identities, etc. I never suffered a mob on Huskerboard for any backwards or problematic ideas I have held in the past.

I think we've all done that, at least those of us with open minds.  I started in P&R a staunch Christian, mostly conservative, defending George W. Bush a little bit. Discussion is good for the soul.

It'd be funny if I ended up back on the conservative side at some point.

Everyone is disagreed with in P&R. Nobody is sacred, and the things I agree with you on don't protect me from your opinions on things we disagree on. And vice-versa.  And that goes for pretty much all the regulars in that forum.  I don't even know what "the Ric Flair treatment" means, unless it's everyone in the thread disagreeing with you, and if that's the case, who hasn't had that happen to them? :D I know I've had some pretty vociferous disagreements with you, Moiraine, BRB,

Keep trying. He'd be welcome there, as are TGH or BRB or JJ (when he makes a rare sighting there) or anybody else who actually leans conservative.

The reason Ric and Bnil and Dewiz get (got) a chilly reception from most people there is because they're seemingly impervious facts and objective reality. They have a tendency to voice strongly conservative positions (conservative as in Trump conservatism versus classical conservatism) but when they get presented with facts that contradict their message, they ignore it and double down on the same argument or play the whaabout game to shift the subject to something else. It's one big game of reinforcing their own biases. It's frustrating for the rest of us that are willing to shift our tone when we're shown to be wrong.

You can take any position you want in P&R within the rules of the board. But if you can't back it up with facts, you're liable to get roasted.

Ric was disagreeable to the point where I still think he was trolling.
He was...it is funny that people sort of played into it.  There would even be posts like "You must be trolling now" followed by 5 insane paragraphs and a 6 links.  Then Ric would go ahead and pick out one part of the that persons post, "roast" the poster and the poster would start all over.

I have only seen a few other posters accomplish what he was doing.  There was another poster, on the "other side" that did the same exact thing and was brilliant at it but is also gone.

He seemed to be trying to bait people into overreacting to get them in trouble, if not banned. It's pretty funny how that worked out for him.
He probably was...he was like a rock star and he was feeding off the energy of other posters.  I don't know if he got anyone banned, maybe one poster?  I can't remember.
