I think a lot of it is attitude.I think 9-4 with Joe Ganz and co. while getting obliterated by Oklahoma and Missouri is quite a step down from 9-4 with freshman Tommy and every game competitive.bo's first season was no worse than his most recent. and his second and third were pretty good.
Regardless, it's weird how coaches are able to have success early sometimes isn't it? Especially when you think of Hoke going 11-2 his first year.
Guys with personalities like Bo, Harbaugh, and Hoke can have a quick improvement because they're very energetic, and it's easy for talented players who are discouraged to buy in and excel.
The trade offs aren't always fun but it's just a thought I have watching those guys.
