I was amazed that these folks truly believe (I surmise? ) that their children are genuinely being harmed by wearing masks at school

I get the other mask complaints - they're distracting, kids won't wear them, etc. But they're harmful? That's the hill you wanna die on?

Distracting?, yes, sure. Pain in the a$$?, could be depending on age of kid. Effective?, debatable, depending on which study you read. Harmful....? I don't think so.

There is far more evidence of Trump/conservatives letting political considerations influence their decision making re: COVID-19
than there is of liberal governors or Democrats doing so, despite the latter being a popular accusation by some of our less discerning friends in the Football forum and sadly, in the broader population.
This happens at the state level as well. For instance, FL Governor Ron Desantis (R) has done everything in his power to muddy up, if not outright bury, COVID statistics in his state. Ricketts did the same thing with meatpacking plants.
They're trying to influence statistics and/or keep them from the public. Think about what that means.
