The P&R Plague Thread (Covid-19)

That high of a positive rate only further shows that the US is only testing cases that are severe, and leaving those who are not experiencing severe symptoms in the general public to infect the rest of us.

Even if they retool, wouldn't it be months before they would have something ready to go? I think any medical device mfg. would need to be tested and then approved by the government. I don't know what is worse, having no ventilator or having one that doesn't work right.

Hopefully we as a country/world don't have a short term memory about this. We need to think critically about our healthcare system and where PPE/equipment is made. We are only setup for a regional events and not a world wide event like this.
Yes

switching a plant over to making something like a ventilator takes time even in these kind of situations.

you don’t walk into a plant and a week later have 100,000 units.

I check in the hospital every morning and they ask if I have symptoms, the answer is always no, then they let me walk in. Everyday I wonder whose lying about symptoms or how many people I interact with could be asymptomatic. Hell I could be asymptomatic, I’m in my twenties and outside of an occasional cold, I never pick up anything. God knows how many people are walking around with it.

I would love to hear your solution to businesses being shut down that have bank loans, bank payments...etc.

I don't think this idea will be protested even here.

Instead of throwing $700 billion at the banks, why not take that same money and give it proportionally to all Americans? That would be around $2,000 per citizen in their pocket to help them sustain themselves and/or spend at business to keep the economy flowing.

Proclaiming "no business will be allowed to fail" is just not realistic. Businesses fail every single day, and many who were teetering at the brink of failure prior to this ordeal should be allowed to close. Let customers decide what businesses they want to solicit and support rather than bureaucracy doing so. That's bound to turn out poorly.

Been looking for this for a minute and finally found it. This is US testing data by state. As I suspected, NY has completed 100,000 more tests than any other state. Washington is #2 with 45,000 tests. What's interesting is, only hotspots seem to be getting alot of testing. Most states have under 5,000 completed tests. Louisiana has done 20,000 or so tests and is one of the fastest growing areas in the country per million people. Mississippi right next door has done less than 4,000 tests. New Orleans is 45 minutes from the coast of MS and I know for a fact New Orleans residents are fleeing for their second homes in MS. Other residents are coming to MS to take advantage of more relaxed restrictions. This is exactly why the spread isn't going to stop anytime soon. Not only are we too lax and disorganized with our social distancing, but we aren't getting ahead with testing across the board. Testing is just happening in places deemed hot spots. I wonder why those places are so hot. I'm sure if other states were tested at the same level many of those states would be considered hot spots as well. We are so far behind this thing it seems like any sort of containment is a fairytale.

Yes she is. Only 36. It’s why I get annoyed when it’s pathophysiology gets minimized as just another “flu” and only the elderly and chronically ill are at risk. We simply don’t know yet.
It'd be interesting to see her H&P, - smoker/nonsmoker, underlying conditions (asthma or bronchitis), ect. Also she's been in Omaha for a week+, so uhhhh, good luck on containment.

We got 5 now! Run @JJ Husker, run!
After these past few years of virus infested cruises, I don’t think you could pay me enough to go on a cruise. I heard that one cruise ship, the people are confined to their cabins for 21 days. Can’t come out and can’t leave the ship. They gotta stay in their little bitty closet room. There’s a fun vacation.
