If they don't change it this year when will they? This is a great chance because half the fanbase is vocal in support of something new and another quarter is open to it.

Even VTech needs to change their Enter Sandman too. Both songs are older than nearly every player on the field. Change ain't so scary people.

Does anyone think Bo Pelini isn't on the hot seat already? That he'll survive another season like last year, or worse?
Pelini is no more on the hot seat than any other coach with a .700 winning percentage.
He'll be on quite a few lists come fall. Do you think he'd survive a 7 win season? How about an 8 win season with a couple blowouts? If you answer no to either of those, then I think he's on the hot seat. 90-95% of coaches out there would survive those seasons.
I'm glad you've already simulated the season on XBOX and believe Pelini is on the hot seat. Good stuff.

My post. Doesn't matter if it's even relevant to the quoted post, he just has to respond to all of them with some drug induced ramble that usually leads about as far from the original point as he can get. Talk about smoking ribs, he'll respond with something about Runza's and how I hate Nebraska for not mentioning Valentino's pizza. Such is the narrative within his world of 1.

We don't need comments like this. This belongs in the Woodshed, most specifically because of the "you" reference, but also because of the tone, and the implied displeasure/dislike toward the person to whom you're responding.

We all know this stuff doesn't belong in the Football Forum. I had hoped that the pinned "be excellent" post in this forum would be reminder enough that we're not tolerating this stuff this year, but apparently that is not the case.

Not sure. My embedded quote appears to be from the Fresno State thread, posted yesterday.

If the Mods are trying divert every post with Bo Pelini kvetching into The Tangent Thread, they've got their work cut out for them.

Those weren't the only posts, and I wasn't about to go through and pull all the tangent garbage out. Again.

It takes a lot of time to pull posts out and put them in another thread.

It takes less time to lock a thread.

It doesn't take much time at all to disable a person's posting ability if they keep getting involved in such threads.

1. If we are talking about the Fresno thread (which I was)--it was created as an offshoot by another mod to give it's own discussion. I thought when it was on topic, it was fine as people were fleshing out expectations. Some people who didn't like the direction of that, got personal, too bad. Neither way, thought I'd ask.

2. I would imagine so, yes.

3. I would imagine so, yes.

4. I'm curious why this was brought up, but I would imagine so.

On a side note, commenting on a tangent in a tangent thread gives one an odd feeling.

I am confused. Can I post my FSU statements here?

Also, is my question a tangent to the tangent thread mean it is on subject?

* NIGHT OWLS IN FRESNO: It was clear that Pelini had plenty of respect for the challenge facing Nebraska on its first road trip, when it travels to play Fresno State in a night game that starts at 9:30 CST.

“Playing at 9:30 on our kids’ clock is probably the biggest concern I have about it,” Pelini said. “It is what it is. We’ll be ready to play when the time comes.”

Will Nebraska change its travel routine for that game? “If anything, we’ll fly out later.”

Mr. Mandel, This upcoming season, the Big Ten has two strong College Football Playoff contenders in Michigan State and Ohio State. Does the conference's perception and recent bowl game struggles damage their playoff hopes to a degree?

-- Samuel Ensign, sophomore, Purdue University

I was told the FOX Sports audience skewed younger, and sure enough, I’m now getting them as undergrads. Good question, Samuel, but for future reference, no need for all the formality. You can just call me Dr. Mandel.

I’ve been told repeatedly that conference perception will carry no relevance with the selection committee; however, I do think team-specific perceptions will be hard to ignore. To that end, these two should have no such problems. Michigan State is coming off a Rose Bowl win over a widely respectedStanford team and has another chance to prove itself Sept. 6 at Oregon. Ohio State did lose to Clemson in last year’s Orange Bowl, but it’s still a program that started 24-0 under Urban Meyer. And it gets to test itself against … Michigan State.

The question is what happens if there’s a surprise contender from the conference? The Spartans, coming off a 7-6 season the year before and generally not a traditional power, faced a lot of skepticism last year right up until the Rose Bowl. If Iowa, for example, becomes this year’s Michigan State, will the Hawkeyes get the same benefit of the doubt as a 12-1 SEC team or will the committee consciously or subconsciously downgrade the Hawkeyes because of lack of recent history? What about Nebraska, with its long lineage of big-game meltdowns under Bo Pelini?
Doh!
