Those No Longer With Us

Trip down memory lane.  Nebraska starting QBs between the 2016 and 2023 seasons.  8 seasons, 12 different starting QBs (throwing in Dylan we're at 9 seasons, 13 different starters).  Seems like a lot to me, but I wonder how that compares to other programs.

Tommy Armstrong

Ryker Fyfe

Tanner Lee (only one to make it through a full season)

Adrian Martinez

Andrew Bunch

Noah Vedral

Luke McCaffery

Logan Smothers

Casey Thompson

Chubba Purdy

Jeff Sims

Heinrich Haarberg

Tanner is the only pro style/statue QB and he made it through the year.  Hoping the coaches can do this with Dylan and limit any running as that seems to be the common denominator for QB injuries.  At least it makes it less likely.

I'm not expecting anyone to know this.  But, I would be interested in knowing how many of these injuries were actually on running plays.  I know he's not on the list.  But, if I remember correctly, Taylor Martinez was injured at Missouri on a pass play that he had to scramble away from the pocket.

Only 4 on that list actually lost starts to injury, right?  TA, AM, CT, and HH?

Don't remember how TA got hurt, but it was a hammy I think.

Adrian lost out to McCaffrey for a game or 2 due to performance, and he also lost games to being hurt.

Casey got hit while throwing a pass in the pocket.

HH turned an ankle, but also may have been benched anyways because he was on the struggle bus and Chuba was finally getting healthy.

Fyfe, Bunch, Vedral, Smothers, and Purdy were injury fill-ins.

And Sims was benched when he forgot how to hold a football.

Yep. And the ankle twist almost appeared to be purposeful as payback for Suh's sack of Gabbert the previous season.

That's a good point.   I still think it's a good idea to minimize how much your QB gets hit, we can agree on that, right?

So we just have had mostly awful QB performance is what you're saying to cause more benching? Gross! Ha.

You laugh, but Florida State special teams is killing it. Ingenuity on two-point conversions, and their kicker just made a 59 yard field goal. He was pretty successful for Nebraska as a coach for many position groups, including special teams.
Laughter is a defense mechanism to cover up sadness, ha! I watched that 59 yarder and thought "man it's gonna suck watching our kickers shank 34 yard tries after seeing this".
