Top three choices - in order of preference - leave a reason or two for selection

Eric the Red

Team HuskerBoard
  1. Saunders45 (Josh) - he's interested in position, likes posting new content, tech saavy with twitter, marketing, etc., came to Huskerboard because Big Red Report was slow and no one posted, runs Tampa Huskers alumni group, hboard donor, interested in C/G/T forum.
  2. Thank Tom RR (Adam) - loves recruiting, quiet, does what's right, well liked.
  3. Nuance (Scott) - Wants to see the board succeed, was ok with not being a mod if we found others more qualified which means he cares about the board first.

Here's the full list, in order of application:

Landlord of Memorial Stadium (James)

Saunders45 (Josh)

Minnesota_husker (Ryan)

It'sNotAFakeID (Adam)

Hammerhead (Aaron)

NUance (Scott)

Thanks_Tom RR (Adam)

1. NUance - Best candidate, hands down. Smart, level-headed, respected by a huge swath of the members.

2. It'sNotAFakeID - have met him personally and think he's a good guy. Young enough to stick around for a while, also can relate to the 20-something generation of the board.

3. Minnesota_husker - savvy and smart. Like FakeID, he'd be here for a few years, he's active, and he'd be good with the folks his age, which are the future of the board.

EDIT - after Blackshirtguru was added:

I'm not going to change my ranking. I don't know Bllackshirtsguru so I can't rate him. I can say I have no knowledge anything bad about him, and I have no reason to suspect he would be anything other than a good Mod.

Same goes for Thanks Tom_RR. I don't interact with him on any of the forums I frequent. But I have nothing bad to say about him, and he's got a lot of respect from a lot of members.

Not that it's a real barometer, but both Bllackshirtsguru and Thanks Tom have been voted in to the Starting Lineup. So people dig them.

Here's the full list, in order of application:

Landlord of Memorial Stadium (James)

Saunders45 (Josh)

Minnesota_husker (Ryan)

It'sNotAFakeID (Adam)

Hammerhead (Aaron)

NUance (Scott)

Thanks_Tom RR (Adam)

I guess it depends a little bit on what we're looking for. I went with guys who are fairly even-keeled and good contributors.

1 - NUance - Only hangup is the separate user request. I understand why he asks that but would it be odd if a new user was a mod? Other than that, very active and thoughtful. Creates a lot of content in the lesser-used forums.

2 - saunders45 - He can be a little feisty at times but he generally does a good job being active and adding to the discussion. Probably the best in the group at creating new threads - for sure in the Football forum.

3 - It'sNotAFakeID - Close with Thanks_Tom RR but I'll give him the nod based on the recommendation from addict and knapp

Agree with Mavric that it depends on what we're looking for. I went with the even-keel and contributors as criteria also. Think we want at least two of the latter and ideally, all for the former.

*My list won't be ordered; just reverse alphabetical. As long as we're welcoming guys to the team, there should be no preference. Simple in or out for me.

1. Thanks_Tom: He makes sense given his interest (as shown by his discussion with Eric) and his help with the recruiting forum. As Eric noted he's also pretty soft-spoken. This is the important part to me: he hasn't *ever* gotten into it with anybody that I've seen, no matter the context. This is an extremely valuable trait in a mod. I could definitely take a cue or two from him in that category.

2. Saunders45: I think he fits exactly what Eric is looking for. He's interested and invested in this community. His application stands out as very thorough and lets us know exactly what he's about. His style is a bit different, which I think will be good as it adds some diversity to the mod team. Being occasionally feisty as Mav noted is one area he might want to watch out for in his capacity as a mod, but I've been through the same road during my time here. Given his love for this community, I do not think it will be an issue if it's well explained to him.

3. NUance: Definitely. I know him a little bit outside of the board and feel he has absolutely the right stuff for this. Very easygoing and hits it off with everybody. As long as he is interested, I'm on board. The 2 users thing won't be able to work; we can see if that would be an issue for him.

4*. Blackshirtsguru: Did he end up applying? He posted that he would and perhaps just missed Eric's reply. I believe his name came up years ago in the last big round of new moderators and I thought he was a strong candidate then. He seems very mature and level-headed, and like NUance, as long as he's interested, I'm on board. I think he'd be a great addition to the team. It also helps to not have every new moderator be one of the most prolific posters -- it gives the team some diversity, and helps the process not be looked at as a "top posters' club" deal.

Lastly of the people I didn't mention, I wanted to make a note on It'sNotAFakeID. I've always enjoyed his posts here. He took serious, extended issue with the mods team over the January bannings, and I don't know what became of that. I don't think his concerns were unfounded, but I am surprised he was so interested in joining the mods team, and don't know *why* he did, or what approach he intends to adopt. This is something I wish we had learned more about in his application, but all we have from him is how much he posts. In fairness, that is all that was asked in the questionnaire. However, *every* other candidate at least did some feeling out about the nature of their proposed role with Eric, so it is a notable omission to me.

One reason for Adam (FakeID) not making much of an inquiry into the duties may be because he's good friends with Ryan (huskeraddict) and likely has a good idea of what we do.

1. NUance, I'm not really on board with him having a different name. I said some things in the past that had I known I was going to be a mod, I may not have said those things. Has a lot of respect from several other posters, good poster. Would love to have him on board.

2. Thanks_Tom, seems like a good poster, his recruiting interest could be a good thing for Mavric as we all know that part of the board is a HUGE part of huskerboard.com.

3. It'sNotAFakeID, I don't recall having any issues with him at any point in his time here.

I am curious whether blackshirtsguru ever sent in information or not though?

1. It'sNotAFakeID He really enjoys this board, plain and simple. He generates a good amount of original content for both his own topics and others as well. A mod position would make him even more active.

2. saunders45 Veteran poster who knows what this board is about. Can bring the experience of a longtime non-moderator posters as well as someone who has posted on other Husker message boards.

3a. Minnesota_husker Someone else I think will flourish as a poster with mod responsibilities. Plus, Ryans have to stick together.

3b. NUance The dual usernames are a deal breaker for me. If he wants to stick with NUance, consider him my 3rd candidate.

I'm fine with any except Landlord. For all I know, he may end up being a great mod, but he sure seems to be at the center of a lot of crap that goes on. He would worry me. Don't really know about Hammerhead. I think we couldn't go wrong with any of the remaining people.

Zoogs put it awfully eloquently and exactly what I was thinking.

This has nothing to do with trust huskeraddict, but I'm curious what he sees the mod position as. You are someone who is very observant, always around, offer great feedback and intelligent. On the flip side, you have said previously, you just don't post a whole lot.

How do you see Adam (FakeID) in this role? If he is active, will he remain active? Sometimes when we have a person become a mod it's almost like they crawl into a shell and become very reserved. They are afraid to post or feel they have to change and "police the area." Do you feel he will do this?

Also, I do feel like I will ask a follow up question to the January issues we had and merely ask what his views are on it. Not looking for a certain kind of answer, just opinion. Not a deal breaker whatsoever.

BTW......anyone can respond to this post. You all have a voice. I just mentioned huskeraddict because I know he's friends and has spoken to him. I also know Mavric and Knapplc are high on him as well. Please feel free to reply. Sell me on FakeID!!!

Thanks for your help, Eric

It may be a good thing that FakeID expressed his displeasure with the bannings. It shows he's willing to speak up, won't be a wallflower, won't fade away when (if) he becomes a Mod.

I've met the guy a few times and really like him (and Ryan, too). I think he's good people, got a good head on his shoulders. It's a legit question to ask if he'll be on board with the direction that Management wants to take HuskerBoard, though.

I don't really have any other input one way or the other. Honestly I didn't remember him being one that took issue with everything.

For me, I think NUance and saunders would be my top two with not a lot of difference between the next two or three so I gave FakeID the nod based on recommendations.

If you ask me who I would take issue with as a mod? Landlord and Minnesota. Why? Landlord because he's Landlord and Minnesota absolutely lost his sh#t when I warned him about something awhile back. Sent me all kinds of PM's and went to verbally bashing mods somewhere on the forums.

I'd forgotten about that with Minnesota. That was a bad look.

Is it safe to say that nobody endorses Landlord, and he can be taken off the list?

Agree on Landlord. I like the guy, but he has made unapologetic personal attacks in the past because he felt like it.

I somewhat agree about Minnesota going off recollection, but my memory isn't too sharp here. My fuzzy memory tells me he also reported guys a lot. I don't know the validity rate on those reports, but as a Mod, he would be able to go straight to action. I tend to think being quick to action causes more problems than not, so I'd rather have someone I know will be pretty reserved with their trigger finger. I tried looking through the reports, but can't seem to sort by reported them.

I think this is good. I really like the guy as a poster, and he's definitely very level headed. Going back through the threads, I don't think he said anything I wouldn't have in his shoes. His biggest issue was with the silence. And for a long time, the silence was deafening.

Thinking about it again, it's not just him as a poster. I think he will be an extremely judicious and fair moderator.
