Trev Alberts

My question is why was it 2 men's sports? I don't know all the intricacies of Title 9, but if they cut one men's wouldn't they have to cut a women's program too?
they had to add sports, mens and womens, to join the summit league.
Plus, Title IX isn't about the # of sports, but the # of scholarships distributed among the men's and women's sports and how they correlate to the student population of the school.

$50 million debt is not speculation, it's math.

How the wrestling team was treated less than 24 hours after winning a national championship isn't speculation, it's history.

There was also letting football players sign letters of intent and letting the football coach make a hire that the administration had no intentions of honoring. Those are facts as well, not speculation.

Trev Albert's previous job history consisted of a lackluster NFL career that got him onto Bleacher Report's "50 Biggest NFL Draft Busts of All Time" list (No. 27, to be exact) and then he was fired at ESPN for failure to show up to work . This sparkling resume, matched with an unbridled ego made Alberts the perfect guy to be the hatchet man for what transpired...plus, he looks good in a suit.

So I am not going to argue whether one likes him or not, because that is an opinion, and one can't argue opinions. But the above are facts, armchair ADs or not...except the suit part...that's an opinion.

Preach!

But doesn't it seem a little odd that Alberts would come in a cut two succesful programs just because he wanted to. Surely there are many other factors (and people) who were driving that decision? That surely wasn't just his idea or plan was it?
Alberts did what he was told. He was picked to be a pretty and familiar face for doing a "dirty deed that was done dirt cheap".

As far as what sport made what money, Sandy Buda always complained that the money brought in by the advertising signs at the football field went into the school's general fund, and not credited to the football program, or even athletics. It seems like a case of making sure the books would show failure as much as possible to kill off football and wrestling so someone could make some cash building a new hockey rink, and have the UNO dupes fill it.

I suggest to anyone who wants to get into the real nuts and bolts of the money / Title IX issues (or non-issues), please take a look at the ESPN in depth story on UNO losing football and wrestling, and the independent audit of how the books seemed to have been cooked: http://sports.espn.go.com/espn/otl/news/story?id=6488960

Are people really still fake-mad about this?
Probably the kid who who picked UNO and paid full, out of state tuition so he could play college football and not be told there would be no college football for him ...his name is Max Dennis. Do you think he is still fake-mad about this? Do you believe it would be wrong for him to still be fake-mad, since that was the only reason he chose UNO and not some other college?

No, I would think he would be real-mad, don't you?

I am talking about people that are fake-mad.

I said this in another thread, but what qualifies Trev Alberts to be AD at Nebraska? And "he played at Nebraska" doesn't count.
I laughed.

I know this is way out of date. Im just getting throught this thread.

This comment here is exactly why ive been cranky lately. Uneducated, researchless, assuming comments like this.

Ummm... Thanks?
Well, yeah I was a little harsh on you. And you may have been sarcastic. You may choose to not believe this, or believe it. It's not personal against you. I have no clue what kinda poster you are. I really dont. But I stand by my comments. Cuz comments like these are all over the place lately and im pulling my hair out over it. People have this internet as a pedestal and they just throw around stupid sh#t and try to spin it as fact to support their opinions and it's really sad. Read your post (assuming it was serious) knowing what you know now (again, assuming you were serious and didnt know before) and tell me it's not ridiculously dumb.

"What qualifies Trev Alberts to be AD at Nebraska besides playing here?"

He's already an AD within the system. That's what.

You get my drift I hope. Sorry if you took it personal.

Here was my in depth post expounding on my question. Hopefully this doesn't offend you.

So a handful of people have mentioned his "resume" at UNO? What would standout on his resume at UNO that would make him more qualified than 200 other D1 ADs? Or more qualified than 50 other high level assistant ADs at top notch athletic programs? Has he ever managed a budget comparable to UNL? Has he ever been in a department that has a top flight football team? Has he ever fundraised to a level that would allow the type of capital projects that the athletic department at UNL has?

FWIW, I have no opinion on why he cut football or wrestling at UNO. Sounds like he made a tough decision.

Whatever people think of Byrne, Peterson, or Eichorst, their resumes were 10x better than Trev's when we hired them. They had all been working in athletic administration for years and had big time AD experience (Oregon, Pitt, Miami).

If we were to hire a new AD who must have "Nebraska ties", the Greg Byrne at Arizona should be the target.

thank you. You support my point. Your original comment is dumb. Its thoughtless and factless. But this here is whats neede.
Again. This isnt about you or this issue. I picked your post cuz it was low hanging fruit of what goes on a lot anymore. Very few can back up their comments with legit circumstances or even facts.

No it didnt offend me. I appreciated it.

Hockey attracts 7-8k fans every home game. How many fans went to wrestling duals and meets?
Now figure the expenses... $82 million for the hockey arena, $50 million still unpaid... and how much for a couple of wrestling mats?...trick question, the mats were already bought and paid for.
This might be one of the dumbest posts I have read on a message board & that is saying something.
