Trump’s Accomplishments…at levels never seen before (2025 version)

What’s dumb about the protests?
A lot of the folks attending these protests were the same ones supporting insane Covid measures just a few years ago. Ones that restricted bodily autonomy, got people fired for not getting vaccinated, & wanted people in some areas to have to present vaccine cards to go out to eat. Spoken as someone who works in Science and is vaccinated nor anti vaccine.

Donald Trump is an elected president and was not empowered by any kind of traditional monarchy. He still has to abide by the laws set fourth and checks and balances. Many of which have sided against him already. And illegal migrants have no legal standing pending trial (as they should get one) to exist in this country. That being said..the path to citizenship clearly needs to be updated. It is far too long & costly.

Mostly my thoughts after seeing people through Covid and this..they don’t want no kings..they want a different “king”.

IDK. I’m failing to see how past Covid issues have anything to do with protesting what has been happening under Trump.

Hatch Act violated.

Posse Comitatus Act violated.

Due process not being followed.

Masked federal agents not identifying themselves, acting above the law with impunity.

Pardons of violent J6ers and then hypocritically way overreacting to lawful peaceful protests.

Sorry but I fail to see how these protests are dumb. The right to peacefully protest, even dumb things, is guaranteed in the Constitution. This administration is doing things that run counter to the Constitution. The USC is supposed to be non-partisan but is not. Congress is supposed to write laws and have power of the purse and is supposed to set any tariffs but the Executive has assumed these powers. The checks and balances are not functioning. Seems to me these protests are very appropriate and not dumb at all.

But we must reject the false promise of compromise. The pulsion of authoritarianism is to accumulate power, not to come to terms with the opposition. Ultimately, complying leads to complicity.

Instead, we must name political aggression clearly: this new authoritarian wave bears clear fascist traits. These movements share essential elements: disdain for pluralism and diversity, fetishization of leadership, order and aggression, dismissal of the rule of law, and aversion to accountability. They thrive on our fear of calling them out.

We must not sleepwalk towards the collapse of democracy

The over 400 scholars who signed the letter do not agree on everything. In fact, they often debate theories, methods, and ideologies. But they are united in their commitment to democracy: the rule of law, the independence of the judiciary and the press, the autonomy of scientific and cultural institutions, and the dignity of every human being. They also agree on this: we are sleepwalking towards the collapse of democracy.

We must convince people of conscience that masked agents abducting civilians without due process, the neutering of legislatures, the dismissal of international human rights law, and the erosion of judicial independence cannot be accepted. History teaches us that tyrants typically consolidate their power by mocking intellectuals. Then, they escalate through violence.

However, we are optimistic that once we acknowledge the signs of fascism, we can defeat it again.

I’m saying that the ones who are now anti-authority were cheering for authoritarian things not so long ago when it benefited themselves. Federal agents should not be masked I agree. Police cars should be bright yellow.

Military parades are still little d!(k syndrome

This is a willful misunderstanding of the protests happening during Trump 2.0. The people protesting are not "anti-authority." They are protesting a president who has violated due process (something EVERYONE is entitled to under US law, even illegal immigrants), and who has bandied about suspending habeas corpus. This is the same person who campaigned on acting as "a dictator."

No one was "cheering" for the measures taken during Covid. Those of us supporting things like wearing masks and practicing social distancing understood why those steps were taken and did them willingly, if not enthusiastically. Nobody wants to wear a mask if they don't have to. Also, complaining about masks remains the weirdest thing ever.
