Agree with tschu and knapplc. I think we have very good reporters in the area.
First, a question. Can anyone really blame Nebraska sportswriters for their frustrations? Look, everybody has a job to do, whatever that job may be - construction, business, insurance, journalism, etc. When a head coach becomes unnecessarily vindictive (which I believe Pelini can be childishly vindictive at times) it makes a journalist's job that much more difficult, by which all the Husker fans suffer for, not just the journalists.
Can you imagine Pelini in Joe Girardi's shoes right now and how much of a journalistic nightmare that situation would be? Pelini has yet, and probably will never, grasp the PR side of his job. I think most have accepted this won't change, but we have to draw the line somewhere. Cancelling media after practices, telling the media they're only allowed to talk to player x,y and z (which recently happened) is just ridiculous imho.
My attempt at a poor analogy - imagine your boss doesn't really care about your job, but you still have to put together a presentation for an important meeting. You ask your boss to give you important data only he has access too, and your boss gives you only a quarter of the data you need. And some of it isn't even what you asked for. To me, it's very similar to what Husker journalists deal with.
I know there are varying opinions on this, but I think when journalists suffer it's the public that suffers too. The quality of stories declines, the number of stories declines and journalists become frustrated. Reflect on your own professional career. Has frustration ever led to poor work or negative production? It's never really an excuse, but I can't blame them.
