Who's Leaving? 2024/25 version

He was featured recently. I don’t buy the excuse that he was disrespected earlier in the season so he is leaving. You have a chance with a new OC that understands your value. Why leave? Again, I can’t stress enough how damaging the Iowa game loss has been. I feel that had we won that game, half of what is happening would not be happening.

I know analogies always are always tricky, but say you felt you were undervalued (perceived or not) at work by your (sub-par) manager.   You are disgruntled about it, even start looking for other jobs, decide you are leaving at X date, then just before said date you get a new manager who values you and you start to excel.  The upper management/hierarchy is still the same from before who supported the previous guy, and you are already mentally checked out.  Especially if you already lined up a job/have marketable skills that are in high demand.  Do you stick around at that point for 'loyalty' to the new guy who had to come in from outside the organization to recognize your potential?

My concern isn't with individual players who are leaving, but with how this 3 year culture building project is supposed to take a jump if the program is being lead by players in their 1st or 2nd season at NU.

I also appreciate the need for NIL & revenue sharing.  But, these players can't appreciate the bonds they are severing & will miss out on the rest of their lives by being de facto pros & mercenaries.

NU's meltdown this season is also starting to make a lot more sense if a number of players had a foot out the door.  You'd be surprised how open many players are about going into the portal or not really being interested in schools on recruiting visits.

Princewill is the number one transfer portal player on the 247 board. When we lost Hausmann to the portal he was highly ranked as well.  Wished both of them would have finished their careers here.  I know the 2 Kentucky wr's that are transferring are highly ranked on the 247 board as well but I don't know realistically what are chances are with them.
I saw this today and I don’t understand it.  I don’t think the rating services know how to rate the transfer portal yet.  With scholarships limited to 105 the transfer portal going to be about bringing in impact players.  Princewill has some upside but he hasn’t put it all together and shown it on the field yet.  Malachi Coleman is also ranked 27…

I don't know if I'd necessarily correlate the minimal lack of improvement in the Win column to NIL/Portal because its impacting most all programs. However, I do think the less dominant results by what should be the more dominant programs is a result of the NIL/Portal phenomenon.

It used to be that players' focus was on football, girls, and school. Now I think the focus is changing (has changed)  to NIL, NIL (purposefully twice), football, girls, and maybe school is in the list somewhere.

Credit to Sanders & CU for figuring it out a year or two early.   It's becoming more and more like basketball imo.  Hopefully hang on to some key pieces and do the best you can to rebuild yearly in the portal.  I'm not a fan of the system but I'm intrigued where it will be in 5 years.

It might work in the soft 12, but it's a little harder to do that in the big10 & SEC.

Contracts for players now. I'm about done.

They deserve to get paid I'm fine with that. But I want a contract to the school. They have your playing rights just like the pros.

Gone are the days of actually being a fan of a player. 10 years from now, the question of, “who was your favorite husker player” will be mostly meaningless.
To be fair, our horrendous teams for 10 years now have done far more damage in the “who is your favorite husker” category than NIL and the portal

it’s also worth mentioning that them entering the portal doesn’t mean they’re officially gone. In EJs case, it could be a leverage/money play.  If he does leave, o well, he had a nice 3 game streak and yet wasn’t a game changer. More concerned about some of the defensive guys not returning than a back who isn’t even a 3 down back

I thought that was a given. Isn’t signing day now call financial obligation day?  Maybe I dreamt that, but I researched it pretty heavy in October and that’s I found.  It’s a replacement for. NLI
