Mizzou / Nebraska Without The Vitriol

And your name is really rude. The man was a war criminal who killed unarmed men and boys. Why you would glorify that, and worse claim he should have done worse..all that were lef were women and babies, I guess he missed those and should have finished em off? You all were on the wrong side of that whole mess, I definiitely would not draw attention to it and try to glorify it. Maybe it Missouri it is funny, but I would think most rational people would find it appalling. It is not like anyone disputes what happened.

Here is wikipedia's take on his action...

Early on the morning of August 21, Quantrill descended from Mount Oread and attacked Lawrence at the head of a combined force of as many as 450 guerrillas. Senator Lane, a prime target of the raid, managed to escape through a cornfield in his nightshirt, but the bushwhackers, on Quantrill's orders, killed 183 men and boys "old enough to carry a rifle", dragging many from their homes to execute them before their families. The ages of those killed ranged from as young as 14 all the way up to 90. When Quantrill's men rode out at 9 a.m., most of Lawrence's buildings were burning, including all but two businesses. His raiders looted indiscriminately and robbed the town's bank.

You brought it up, I am gonna call it out....
Is that similar to your name and your school naming their teams after the 7th cav. who has been noted as the most disgusting american war criminals of all time? Is it similar to wearing red stockings only during MU games to celibrate men who robbed, raped and killed under a union flag and not only did those things but did it to pro union citizens because they lived in MO. Jayhawk, MO's population was 3/4 pro union. The slave population was less than 1/10 th of the state. Considering true southern states where above 1/2 that is extreamly small beans.

Little history for you before you go all high and mighty on us here. Members of MY FAMILY. MY FAMILY WHICH HAS NEVER OWNED A SLAVE IN ITS HISTORY. Where robbed by your so called soldiers. My faimily had members raped by your so called soldiers. My family had men killed trying to protect their daughters and wifes from your so called soldiers. I have but one thing to say to you and your school that glorifies such disgusting criminals and scum.

Jayhawk --

This is what I'm talking about with you people. I've already said that I lack rationality when it comes to you and your kind and that I can't be persuaded by fact. So what do you do? You call me out for being irrational and unaware of facts. The silver lining for me is that you obviously don't care about facts either in that you quoted Wikipedia as if it were a missing gospel and you omitted a series of facts in hopes of persuading innocent Nebraskans that you're the good guy. Thankfully, Fro Daddy has noted your omissions and set the record straight regarding why Quantrill did what he did.

Husker Friends --

Thanks for the input. The news that your defense is better and stronger concerns me, especially in light of Gabbert's youth. I guess it will fall upon our offensive line, which is a mix of good, returning experience and good, new talent to keep Suh and Co. off his back. I wouldn't be surprised if Yost has tried something tricky by midway through the second quarter, i.e. the pass-back to Brad Smith in 2003, in hopes of getting the Huskers back on their heels. As for your offense versus our defense, I am eager to see if we have improved as much as hoped. When you're on offense, what kind of run-pass ratio can we expect? Are you returning to the old days of running first, second, and third or are you still running a version of the west coast offense?

Let me say this. My last line was probably a bit harsh. I could easily edit it out/change it to something less offensive. But i will not. Because I believe it shows something. It shows an emotional attachment to something.

Obviously I have my opinion. Most Ku fans have their force fed, one sided opinion. Both men who led the raids were wrong. And neither is a hero. But there are two very big differences between what men like John Brown did and what the men of Quantrill did.

#1, the men from MO acted in revenge to the acts that had been done to citizens of their state without justice

#2, the men from MO never harmed the women and children

Consider that next time you want to talk down to somebody. You should know what was done to the innocent under the name of 'your' justice against the "bad guys".

Okay i am done with hijacking this thread...

Fellow Husker fans,

We have all now witnessed what it is like to have an actual rival, albeit this one has roots that run much deeper than most and true violence and bloodshed.

Please, someone call Colorado and explain to them that this is what a rival is. I doubt they will understand, they are playing the intramural squad right now.

Thank you,

In The Deed The Glory

p.s. As someone who is quite informed in history, I would say that (as Fro mentioned) to call any of these tried and convicted war criminals heroes is a little naive. To glorify the name of any is about the same, but of course Robert E. Lee is glorified and he is the biggest traitor in the history of the US. That is a fact, not an opinion, by the way.

Considering we live in a country created from treason I find the comment about Lee rather funny.

However, it is factual. While on the surface you may consider the revolution treason, it turned out as the formation of another Nation. Since the Confederate Secession didn't turn out the same, it is considered treason. There would be your difference.

EVERYONE CALM DOWN.... THE WAR IS OVER, NO MATTER WHAT THE SOUTH THINKS... THEY LOST. GET OVER IT!

As a lifelong Tiger fan, I hate and always have hated Kansas. Unconditionally, unequivocally, and irrationally. When they are the issue, facts and reason leave my mind.

I don't feel that way about any other team, including Nebraska. I'm in my mid-30's and, as such, grew up admiring the success of Nebraska's programs. For a host of reasons, the recent years have been kind to Mizzou while Nebraska has been working its way through a series of transitions, from Osborne to Solich, Solich to Callahan, and Callahan to Pelini. I was there in Columbia when the Tigers beat Nebraska for the first time in nearly 30 years. I was there in Lincoln last year when the Tigers scored 52 points during Nebraska's homecoming. That those 2 events transpired, that we find ourselves in a position where the Mizzou-Nebraska game has become such an important part of every season, and that the series has become generally competitive, are things I always hoped for but which I never necessarily expected to happen. Obviously, these recent events have caused a host of reactions. I'm sure that if you've visited Tigerboard and tried to engage in legitimate discourse, you've been disappointed in the responses. I've seen some of the same stuff while lurking on this board.

I assure you I'm not looking to get involved in any of that stuff. Instead, I seek your all's perspectives on your team and what you've seen out of them so far. I've attended all the Tiger games, so I haven't been able to see a snap of Nebraska's season. What I'm wondering, specifically, is whether you think that Nebraska will beat Mizzou on October 8th? If so, why do you feel that way? Are the Huskers better than last year and, if so, in what areas? Or are you thinking that Mizzou has simply fallen off with the loss of Daniel, Maclin, Coffman, et al.? From my perspective, this Tiger team is definitely different and we certainly don't have anyone of Maclin's caliber. We do still have a lot of good pieces though, including several young players who played parts in what was a 5-touchdown win in Lincoln last year.

I look forward to hearing your thoughts.

Here's why we will beat Mizzou this year.

Yes you did come to Lincoln and make us look like a team of illegitimate Hawkins' kids...but...you were playing with the best MU team of the modern era while we were 5 games out of the worst Nebraska team in the modern era. If you think our team has not improved since October 4, 2008 you're in for a rude awakening.

And after that game I'd say you started to decline:

You lost to Oklahoma State 28-23

Lost to Texas 56-31

Squeaked by Baylor 31-28

Lost to Kansas 40-37

Got dismembered by OU 62-21

And looked sluggish against a bad Northwestern W 30-23

Let's face it, compared to the big dogs, both teams were average at best last year. But an average year for MU is really really good, and an average year for NU is just that. Average.

This year I think both teams are probably pretty equal on offense but our D is going to surprise you. Thanks for the post:)

really? This crap again? Kansas fans don't you have an intramural fight to worry with?

Should be an exciting game in Columbia. Key will be turnovers, cannot wait!

I just hate KU and their stupid faces....
I feel ya dude... I feel the same way about Michigan and some other teams that arent worth mentioning. Comes a time when you learn from the past and move on... Between you and me though (and anyone reading this) I hope Mizzou stomps KU so it puts Nebraska back in contention for the North.

We had American war criminals? They must not teach that kinda of stuff in the public school system.

In anycase, when did this thread turn into an American History lesson?
