Gameday Info for Lincoln Visitors

Every year, nearly every week during the season, we have threads pop up from fans of visiting teams looking for things to do in Lincoln, places to eat, etc. With a month to go before the season begins, let's compile all our best current info so we can direct folks here and not have to reinvent this thread every time the question is asked.

Memorial Stadium is located on main campus, just north of downtown Lincoln. Areas of note around there The Haymarket, where the new basketball arena is being constructed and O Street, the main thoroughfare through town where you'll find most of the bars in this guide. There are several hotels throughout the downtown/Haymarket area, as well as bars, restaurants and some shops.

Lodgings

(Hotels in the area, preferably ones with shuttle service or that are near the city shuttle drop-off sites)

Dining

(Dinner especially, but breakfast, fast-food, etc.)

Misty's - probably the one restaurant people think of most when they think Husker Football. Misty's has three locations: Downtown at 11th & P, in Havelock (the original and best) and a new location at Williamsburg Village on Old Cheney Road. Note - the last two times I've been to Misty's downtown I've had terrible service. The food there is mediocre and I would not recommend that location. The original is the better option.

Lazlo's - Two locations, one in the Haymarket downtown at 7th & P, the other on the south side of town at Old Cheney Rd & Hwy 2. Micro-brew beer, pub food, good atmosphere, reasonably priced.

Shopping

(From clothes to forgotten necessities to Husker Gear)

Sightseeing

(There isn't much here, but some folks like to look around anyway)

Bars

(There's a ton downtown, but folks stay all over Lincoln for games)

Brewsky's - If you're staying in Lincoln, NE, odds are there's a Brewsky's near you. Pub food and beer, and tons of TVs. Every location has a pool table or two, I believe. There's a Brewsky's in the Haymarket on 8th between P and Q streets.

Tailgating

(Best spots for visitors)

Where To Get Tickets

(Sellers and scalpers, although you're a fool if you buy from a scalper)

Any other suggestions? What do you want to know about when you travel to an away game?

I would list the locations that the shuttles leave from for those that don't want to deal with parking down by the stadium. The only one I am familiar with is Gateway but I know there are several others.

Tailgating is kind of hard to find in Lincoln for those that don't know where to look so a good tailgating/parking guide is helpful.

I assume once Barrys opens up that is going to be a must go on game weekends. All ages type of place I am going to assume.

As far as the bars on O st, the crowds depend somewhat if you're going at night or going during the day before the game.

The Watering Hole- I would consider this more of a restaurant, but it's worth listing in the bar section as well. Really good food, many claim they have the best grilled wings in the history of grilled wings. Never have been disappointed when I've gone. http://metrodiningde...n_nebraska.html

Sandy's-Home of Elk Creek Water, get a pitcher and hang out.. Similar to a screwdriver, it'll sneak up on ya.

Fat Toad- Bar upstairs and downstairs, usually a mixed bag as far as people is concerned... Has a dance floor. Typical college bar.

Main St.- Big open bar, cool atmosphere, depending on the night. Has a dancing as well.

Cliff's- More of a chill sit down type bar. Get a kamikaze. http://www.cliffslounge.com/

Duffy's-Has fishbowls. http://duffyslincoln.com/

Iggys- usually a pretty good atmosphere, lots of seating compared to most other places. Bar in front and back.

The Rail- dancing, lots of it. Can get pretty trashy at times. If you're looking to take someone home, this might be your place.

The Hr. Lounge- avoid

Marz- Martini bar. Never been inside. Looks nice.

I know I am forgetting some, and I am not sure what these places will have for gameday specials, so maybe someone in the know could help out with that.

Off O St-

Single Barrel- Just south of the embassy, new home of sidetrack band. Never been myself, looks nice though. http://www.thesinglebarrel.com/

The Dock(Embassy)- This place is cool on gamedays. Lots of people come out. http://downtownlinco...embassy-suites/

Jakes- Cigar bar with a lot of beers offered. Great selection of whiskeys. Good selection of cigars. Block north of the O st bars. http://www.jakescigars.com/bg1/

Brewsky's- 3 locations. Haymarket. 27th and Cornhusker Hwy. & 70th and Van Dorn. The website lists one 16th and South St, although Ive never been to that one.

Good sports bar type place. Tv's, sit down, good bar food. http://www.brewskys.com/

Big Red Keno- Sports bar located a few miles west of downtown, on O st. Good food. http://www.bigredres...dsportsbar.com/

That is just sort of a weak run down, and I know I am forgetting quite a bit. Feel free to add any details/opinions.

Also, since going to the bars usually involves being drunk. Best drunk food in Lincoln is D'Leons, they have awesome burritos and have locations all over town. They also have really good breakfast burritos. I get the chicken burrito.

Restaurants: Lazlo's : Casual dining experience with craft beer made in house. Reasonable pricing, clean and family oriented.

The Over : Great Indian food, located in the haymarket.

The Dish : upscale dining experience, with different menu changes all the time, close to the theater.

Buffalo Wild Wings : Awful

Tailgating :

Golds Lot : farther away from stadium, experienced tailgaters mostly here.

Post Office/Under 180 Bridge : Where the biggest party is before the games. Beer and Liquor company areas, along with business spots, probably about 10000 people in the area.

Journal Star : Close and a good party to go to

Off O street Bars:

Red9 : The largest party after the game, always has live music at night. About 1500 people go there after the game. Sometimes you have to wait in a really long line to get in. Can get very crowded and wild but always a good time. Similar to the dock at embassy only much larger area and more drink choices. http://www.red9live.com

Alley : Close to the Golds lot, small but fun bar which has an out door seating area that has recently been renovated with a outdoor bar and seating area.

Zens : Dark martini bar, they have great beer choices and a good drink list.

Barrymore's : The entrance is hidden in an alley. If you can find your way there it is a great spot to take a date or someone that has never been to Lincoln.

Other Fun Things :

Sun Valley Lanes : Close to downtown, nicest bowling alley you will ever find. Clean and huge.

No one mentioned Brothers?

Of course if it was mentioned the next 5 posts would be about how its a "Frat Boy" bar.
Ah yes one I forgot. I've been to brothers a few times and honestly I dont think it's that bad. I also forgot to mention the bar The Bar. It's a few blocks east and is a little place with an outdoor area. Frequented by the greek community quite a bit.
