Gameday Info for Lincoln Visitors

I know it's been discussed a million times but I never paid attention before. How much can you get tickets for 5 mins before a game if it's a crappy opponent? A good opponent? A crappy seat? A decent seat?

Depends entirely on who's selling. If you buy from a scalper, from a fan, from someone who can't go to the game and just wants to dump the tickets, etc. After-market prices are entirely negotiable.

I would list the locations that the shuttles leave from for those that don't want to deal with parking down by the stadium. The only one I am familiar with is Gateway but I know there are several others.

Tailgating is kind of hard to find in Lincoln for those that don't know where to look so a good tailgating/parking guide is helpful.
I know that there is one on the south side that leaves from Homes Lake and there is also one that leaves from the North Star Parking lot. And from personal experience they tend to stop running 15 minutes before game time, so don't show up late and expect to take the shuttle.

The Hr. Lounge- avoid
haha! not to be racist but I agree..also don't forget Jakes which has lots of cigars and lots of alcohol
Jakes is a great place, and The Hr. is definitely not as good as Woodie's was.

I got tickets to the 2010 Texas game for $20 a pop 5 minutes before kick-off from a scalper. Depends on your level of confidence, bargaining and patience. And the greed of the person you're buying from.

Three food places right off the top of my head -

Buzzard Billy's, in the Haymarket on Eighth between P & Q - Great cajun food, very casual sit-down atmosphere. My wife and I go here on our anniversary, because we love the food so much (has become a yearly tradition :D )

El Portrero's, on the corner of Eighth and P - Great Mexican food, good prices, sit-down casual, very friendly staff

Vincenzo's, between Eighth and Ninth on P, on the North side - Fancy Italian dining, very good food, a little pricy

Two great places for dessert -

Right on the dead-end of seventh street, in the Creamery Building, on your left as you go in the front entrance - great ice cream - for the life of me, the name is escaping me

Cherry on Top - South of P on Eighth Street, on the West - Serve yourself custard, with about 10-12 different kinds, and a great variety of toppings - pay by the ounce, except for a minimum charge on all dishes - four different sizes

I've got more, but gotta head out. Try to post a few more later.

All right... one more -

If you take 10th Street North out of downtown, it become I-180. After you get to I-80, continue on I-180 and it becomes Hgwy. 34. The first light you come to, take a right, onto Fletcher, which becomes NW 1st. Then take the first left, and follow the street to a roundabout, and take the roundabout so that you essentially go straight through it. You'll come to a little downtown style retail/business area, with buildings on both sides. On your right is a place called Toast. Great menu, with a variety of different sandwiches and American fare. Also has alcohol of many different types, is a coffeehouse, and also serves UNL Dairy Store Ice Cream. GREAT local place that's a bit out of the way, but well worth it.

That would be Ivanna Cone. Best Ice Cream in Lincoln, its all handmade and the flavors change all the time.

FOOD

There is a bar called N-Zone in the haymarket, has good wings IMO but pretty spotty service sometimes.

Also a new one I have not been to called Pies and Pints, heard alot of ads for it though. Pizza and Beer.

Best after hours food is Ali Babas. Best Gyros in town.

BARS

Jakes is my favorite bar hands down, but I dunno about on gamedays, its pretty small and gets packed quick so show up early if you want a seat at the bar or limited tables...

Sidetracks is gone, with something called Mayas in there now? No idea what its like.

Bodegas is always a fun bar IMO, usually not as packed as some others and they have a patio with a scaled down bar out back.

Below Buzzard Billys is a small bar called the Starlight Lounge, fun place with a different atmosphere than most other places in the area.

There is a newer bar called MIX next to The Bourbon around 15th and O, Huge dance area, usually Techno/EDM/House etc music and the walls are lined with Video Games (Mortal Kombat, a few Pinball machines, Asteroids, PacMan, NBA JAM, and more.

If you go to Cliffs try the Chronic Berry kamikaze. Tastes like a flintstone vitamin with the gritty feel too, I love them.

Gotta be self-serving and pimp up the Single Barrel more. Quite a few people mentioned Sidetracks, which has since turned into Maya's (no idea) once the band left to play their game day festivities, including Friday night, at the Single Barrel. Huge selection of local products, including most of the food and produce (Roasted a whole hog for Spring Game and made pulled pork sandwiches, doing it again on Saturday), tons of local beer and wine. Whiskey and Bourbon focused bar with an entire top shelf devoted to such (Pretty sure only Jake's has more).

Am I the only one that did NOT like Sidetracks?
SIdetracks IMO was only good on game-day mornings... for about 30-45 minutes and then it was always tailgate time for me... I do miss the Magic Margaritas.

However I went there one random night with a buddy and it was gross and empty, I would like to see what Single Barrel has to offer, maybe next weekend.

Hey y'all,

Visitor here - headed to town next weekend from Denver for the Husker / Wisco game!

Seems like the parking info for tailgating is difficult to find. Is there a good public spot that's open for tents, grills, beers, cornhole, etc.? Like a park or field or something? Saw something online about Haymarket Park as being a good option but then the maps seem to say the lots are for donors.

What do y'all recommend? We don't necessarily need to be with other Wisco fans - heard Husker fans are pretty fun...thoughts? Something grill- and beer-friendly...

We're totally unfamiliar with Lincoln - any details that could help us find these spots would be awesome...

Thanks y'alls!

North 10th street at the Indian "whatever it is" is probably as good as any. We always park there. Dont do any tailgating, but that kind of thing is all over the place out there. I think it's 15$/vehicle this year, and not too god awful far a walk from the stadium. It's across the street from the National Guard on Military Road, right off 10th st.
