If UCF hires Scott Frost, does Nebraska get money back?

My mind is having a lot of trouble reconciling this.

What does it mean if he is successful at UCF again after falling flat on his face here?

Does that mean he didn't care or that our program is such a dumpster fire that it has become uncoachable?
It means he was unprepared to take our program at the stage he did and was a too stubborn/arrogant to adapt in a timely fashion. Initially, the expectations were sky high and unrealistic. However, as seasons went on, the same problems kept repeating and the staff didn't have an answer. Additionally, there were several outside factors that negatively impacted him and the program during his tenure, most notably his father's death and Covid. In light of those events, he appeared to lose his drive and the program became stagnant.

Therefore, it was in both parties' best interest to move on. I hope Scott has nothing but success there and we both can enjoy more success in the years ahead.

I think he cared, but maybe he cared about reliving his college days more.  To be fair, it only took 2 seasons for Rhule to get us back to a bowl game, so I wouldn't say it's uncoachable.

Best of luck to him.  The Big XII isn't exactly as tough as the Big 10, but it's a bit tougher than what he dealt with his first go at UCF.

IMO it would have to mean he learned from his failure.  The one thing that always stood out to me when Frost was coach at UCF & NU was that his run game and pass game were not tied together.  They didn't complement each other.  Marrying Walsh's WCO & Kelly's spread made no sense.  McKensie Milton made it work because he improvised a ton.  If one ever revisited those games from Frost's undefeated season, I think they would be surprised how many plays per game Milton took a short set, found nothing, and made something happen play ground style.  I wish him no ill will, but he is the epitome of a coach who thinks having somebody else's playbook makes them a genius.  If he returns as the OC & play caller, I don't see it turning out well for him unless he's really evolved.

The Big 12 is more like the AAC than the Big 10 is, so perhaps he will have more sucess.   It is also a weaker conference.  He can probably at least get them back to bowl level if he doesn't booze around.  I think any success he has there would be easier for Nebraska fans to take if Rhule becomes successful at Nebraska on a consistent basis.

I’m curious to hear if, over time, things will start to come out from his side of things, or the other coaches.

All we really know about the great Frost failure is a bunch of crazy internet rumors, and who knows how much of that is real….or at least that’s all I know. Maybe some of you know more.

We are a program that loses close games, and makes bad mistakes in key moments through multiple coaching staffs and recruiting classes. What happens behind the scenes that keeps this going?

I don’t like it when people’s actions don’t match their words.  To come in with the bravado, with the “Big Ten will have to adjust to us…”, all the “… back in my day..”, all the expressed loyalty to Coach Osborne and the program…. Whatever man.  He was absolutely full of it.
His effort and the result go hand in hand.  We reap what we sow.

No sympathy for a guy with $15 mil in the bank and an ego even higher than that, with the work ethic of a hypocrite.

When did he ever say "Big Ten will have to adjust to us"?

It means he’s one of the many coaches who is better suited for a lower tier job with less expectations.  Very few coaches can just win at a high level of excellence wherever they go. From the on field blunders to off field, this job was clearly too much for him- you add to the equation an absentee AD who gave him too much freedom and u get the frosty era in a nutshell.

the biggest thing that doomed frosty here, for me, was having a staff unfit for the job. He didn’t make any notable changes until it was too late.  Rhule has made some of the same errors, albeit, at a much smaller scale and saw the need to make changes before year 2 even finished.

Frosty will find recruiting to his system be a lot easier back at UCF, he didn’t get enough speed guys here to ever make his system work. We were undersized and not very explosive, that’s a bad combo to have offensively in football.

Easily the quote of the press conference came when Frost was asked how he would modify his system - derived from the famous high-octane scheme originated by Chip Kelly at Oregon - to adjust to the competition in the Big Ten.

“I’m hoping the Big Ten has to modify their system for us,” Frost said confidently, resulting in a loud cheer from the group of current and former players and NU administration.
