knapplc

IMO this type of stuff from @knapplc needs to come to an end. It's not his job or responsibility to determine who should be banned and why, and he posted this into the P&R forum initially before I moved it to the Shed. Furthermore, I think publicly asking moderators to ban someone is tantamount to a troll/personal attack.

If he does it again in the main forums, I think it needs to be accompanied by an official warning. Thoughts?

Can we just ban this guy? This is straight up misinformation, and he's been doing it for years.

This isn't even an attempt at good-faith conversation. This is verifiable lying.

This seems like a problem to me:

Yes, the thread is dumb IMO. And I can't find any clear evidence to this point that HFT2020 is a previously banned member, but that I think that's beside the point. Using a thread in the main football forum to publicly call for another person's banning, rally support for said banning, and call a poster a 'stooge' multiple times feels like a clear violation of board guidelines.

Edit - One more thought. We've had to deal with quite a few situations in recent years that knapplc's been directly involved with. The evidence is in this thread. He's mostly emerged unscathed from it all. I don't think this is worth a ban or anything that severe, but I can see reason to issue a warning for this. A clear message to cut this kind of bullying crap out.
I should've looked back in this thread before my last post because here's another example, from less than one year ago, of knapplc publicly calling for someone to be banned. That's a fairly lengthy gap between recorded incidents, but, he's obviously no stranger to this behavior.

He's pretty much gone off the deep end - or set himself up in an ivory tower, whichever you prefer.  It's pretty annoying to me.

I just don't know what the endgame for it is.  I'm pretty sure he's not going to stop, as evidenced in his response to your post.  So as far as I can tell either we just ignore it or we're going to end up banning him.

I don't think it's worth a ban yet, and I'd be willing to try to work with knapplc via PM to get him to stop some of the overtly aggressive behavior, but the whole body of work is becoming exhausting. At least two instances of publicly asking us to ban people in the last year, the middle finger emoji he dropped, the pompous attitude... I think he provides far more value than negativity, but at some point a line has to be drawn.

He can b!^@h about our moderation techniques and decisions in the Shed all he wants, but I think that line in the sand is with his 'ban this guy' attitude he displays in the public forums.

Notice how he often follows suit with P&R conversations in places he shouldn't? He's not usually the person who starts it but he has no problem diving right into it at virtually any opportunity. He'll even report the people who started it despite taking part.

His status update from yesterday was rich, too. Savage Husker posted a tweet related to Trump and knapplc followed up with a similar one within 15-20 minutes. I locked both. And then knapplc fled to the Shed to say 'status updates don't have to be locked they can just be deleted if they're related to P&R.'

Oh, so you realized your tweet might be a problem and did it anyways?

Keep telling yourself this

RE: emojis

I don't know why you impute such angst over these things.  It's a message board. We talk about everything here. Emojis are just something else people talk about, but you need people to be enraged about them so you can be the cool kid telling everyone else to calm down.

This seems more like a you problem than anything.

Wow.

He has PM'd me on at least two occasions in recent years to explain why reactions should be made public, yet other people are the ones that have 'angst' over it.

This is what he does, he loves to argue and debate. He'll never change his ways and always deflects and refuses to believe or see what the other side is saying. He's a pompous a$$....

I mean ... I not trying to defend Redux.  But he description of what knapp is doing in the Shed right now as a witch hunt is pretty accurate.

What in the world is he trying to accomplish?

I don't know if he has any real goal other than to try to mercilessly criticize Redux into submission and savor some of the attention he'll generate from other posters.

I think knapplc is also going the extra mile because it ties into P&R and he has a noxious and over-zealous attitude towards it all already.

In sort of a loose analogy, Redux 'served his time' and was allowed back into society. Some people can be satisfied with that and move on. And then there are other people who don't care what the 'law' said and feel that they need to insert their personal brand of social justice into the mix. knapplc is certainly behaving like he conforms to the latter perspective.

Holy s#!t.  He's spent the last several pages evicerating Redux.  And lest anyone else try to be a voice or reason:

What does Redux's schlong taste like?

So apparently it's just straight revenge/retribution?  How far does it have to go before they're even?

It matters because he was directly attempting to troll me. Why is that so hard to understand?

You don't get to tell me that I can't be offended by that. I get to make that decision.

But the weird thing is - why are you defending the dude who did the trolling? Why aren't you, instead, saying, "Hey, troller dude, maybe just apologize and own up to what you did and people wouldn't be mad at you."

That's where your priorities are screwed up. Redux isn't the victim here.

I realize it's the Shed and Redux should just quit responding but damn...

I don't get the 'it matters because he was directly attempt to troll me' line. That Rusty account wasn't trying to do much good for anyone, but somehow it's all about knapplc?

This has turned into more of a self-righteous witch hunt than anything else. I expected Redux to take some flak if he came back, but knapplc's reaction has been extremist.

This is probably something we should keep an eye out for in the main forums. I wouldn't be surprised if knapplc tries to twist the knife a little deeper outside the shed with subtle references to this whole situation, and if he does, it may be worth a warning. I'm not trying to defend Redux but he did serve his punishment and this whole reaction from knapplc is a tad uncomfortable.
