Tangent Thread - P&R Edition

You're deflecting blame from where it belongs (the podium guy) to China. It's not China's fault we haven't even ended the first wave yet.
At this point its not China's fault period. What did they do? No evidence this was intentional. This is a pandemic, a force of nature. You can't blame a hurricane on the African coast because that's where it originates at. Its just crazy.

And this isn't to say China isn't wrong for a plethora of other reasons. But come on.

It turned out that The Spanish Flu that killed 50 million worldwide most likely originated in an American army base in  Kansas.  Still, I kinda want to kick Spain's a$$. Or Kansas' a$$. I'm not picky about a$$-kicking.

Speaking of competitors: will football players compete in 2020?

Historically, most people think it started at Camp Funston which was a camp at Fort Riley, Kansas. Yet, it has been traced to pigs in Haskell County, Kansas which is southwest of Dodge City in which those from that part of Kansas then went to Camp Funston. How this thing evolved to a virus there is still unknown.

But to answer your question of will football players compete in 2020? I believe every effort is being made and that the optics are not going to look good no matter what happens. If they have campus' at 10% capacity of students it is going to look like it is all in the name of football just like what Minnesota did today with their campus. Faculty are going to say "it is ok for your student-athletes to be on campus, but for my students in my major it is not safe?" I just think we are playing a fool's game here.

The Huskers did their part.  Nebraska's combined 148W-29L-5T record against Kansas/Kansas State from 1918 onward is a good a$$-kicking.

Hopefully that helps assuage your desire  since Nebraska probably won't be playing either one anytime soon.

So I understand it is hard to remove politics and everyone wants to blame the U.S. president for everything. Trump can't do anything right per liberals and Obama couldn't do anything right per conservatives. Biden- well everyone agrees he is an idiot. So knowing that bias exists- try to take a level head to this. Fauci was the infectious disease expert who led the task force. I think some like to blame Trump for the U.S. not wearing masks from the get go. But Fauci was the guy who said masks were useless in the beginning. That was Trump's top advisor telling the public that- so I am sure he was telling him the same thing in private.

SO- if China and Japan and all these other countries have been using masks for the commoncold and  flu etc for years and had success. How did Fauci not know that? Shouldn't he have known about that data and said Masks Masks and more Masks from day 1? Trump is a business man. Fauci is the expert in his field. I blame the guy who has been studying viruses his whole life. Sure he tried to change course a few weeks ago and say ok everyone do masks.

But he helped shape people's opinions by disregarding masks from the beginning. If he came out and said we gotta wear masks folks and the message was coming from an expert and he was confident in the results of wearing masks from the beginning you wouldnt see such resistance now. The problem is he has changed his recommendations so much- people doubt he knows what the f#&% he is talking about. Maybe he doesn't if he advised against masks but the rest of the world has been doing masks for years.

I'm super certain this is the kind of post @Mavric was talking about when he said to keep the politics out of this as much as possible.

This is purely politics and has nothing to do with football. This needs to go to P&R.

And this from you wasn't?

"It's not China's fault the US has fallen on its face in response to this virus. Whatever China did, it affected the whole world the same way it affected America.

That the rest of the world responded to this better than America is a reflection on how poor our leadership is. The guy in front of the podium spouting off about malaria drugs instead of leading a comprehensive national response got us to one fourth of all infections and one fourth of all deaths in the world, not China."

Somebody please explain why anyone should listen to Fauci.  Exactly what - besides being a govt bureaucrat for about 50 years - has he ever done in the past to be “the answer mam”?   I don’t recall him ever finding a cure, inventing a vaccine, hell - he probably hasnt treated a patient himself in decades - etc. AIDS mess was a total cluster - he failed to act on that which was a very deadly illness by comparison.

I blame Trump for listening to the wrong “experts”.  He still is.

Of course it was. And it should go to P&R, too.

But why didn't you quote the post that started that conversation. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Fauci has made important scientific observations that contributed to the understanding of regulation of the human immune response, and is recognized for delineating the mechanisms whereby immunosuppressive agents adapt to that response. He developed therapies for formerly fatal diseases such as polyarteritis nodosagranulomatosis with polyangiitis, and lymphomatoid granulomatosis. In a 1985 Stanford University Arthritis Center Survey of the American Rheumatism Association, membership ranked Fauci's work on the treatment of polyarteritis nodosa and granulomatosis with polyangiitis as one of the most important advances in patient management in rheumatology over the previous 20 years

he probably hasnt treated a patient himself in decades

Here is him treating Ebola patients within the past 5 years....

Do more research before posting straight garbage. It's really easy to find.

Or straight into the garbage can.  The entire post is pretty much wrong about pretty much everything.
Prove any of what I said is wrong! I will give you 3 talking points. Or do you prefer to just trash the post because you cant argue with it?

1. Did Fauci in the beginning say Masks will not help?

2. Has China and other countries been wearing masks while sick for years?

3. If the countries who wear masks have better flu sickness and death numbers- should Fauci have known that data being an expert in his field?

I will save you time. The answer is yes to all 3. So please let me know what is wrong.

Go Huskers and I hope our conversation about masks convinces people to wear masks so we can have a season. There is your football reference. I like how anything the other side cant argue against needs to go to P&R. But when they have something to say they take time to chime in.

This isn't true at all. Alot of this could easily fit better in P&R and I've argued and agreed with alot of it. The China conversation has nothing to do with college football. Faucis credentials have nothing to do with college football. I could go on but I'm sure you get the point. The thing is this is an incredibly difficult topic to police given how intertwined it is with politics. So people can say things should be moved to P&R and they may be right about that but at the same time that line is very blurred. It's the nature of the beast here.

I agree for the most part. My one issue I take with that is if it was someone always on topic saying take it to P&R. But when one of the guys taking it political as much as anyone is the one who says take it to P&R because it is in conflict with their belief structure. If it doesn't fall in their echo chamber it should go somewhere else.
