What did we learn Indiana edition

Those are just excuses, especially in this NIL and portal era. Indiana got a mostly new staff and is doing well in all phases of the game. We are over halfway through year 2 and by all objective measures this defense is faring worse against BIG opponents than year 1.  White deserves just as much criticism as Foley and Satterfield.
Have you ever coached, besides from your recliner?   Your common sense is not very high when it comes to college football.  There is a reason why players go to the portal.  Many players we get, did not pan out.  Banks is average & Neyer has disappeared.  Or they rob a smoke shop.

I learned that if we win 2 more games this season, it will be progress…a glacier progress but progress nonetheless.

Thinking back to off season we were predicting a bowl game this year after probably 7 wins.  We've still got that.  And, in my opinion, we're far and away improved from previous years with other coaches.

Positives:

- We didn't lose by one score

- We're still just one win away from a bowl game

- We've only given up five rushing TD's this year

- We may get to keep Tony White another year

- Zero stress for next week; we'll be 5 - 3 going into UCLA.

Negatives:

- Rhule's loyalty means no one will be held rightfully accountable for this performance on his Staff

- Rhule's 2nd year looks a lot worse than Indiana coach's first year, it looks worse than the "progression" of his last two rebuilds, and with a better QB, looks eerily as bad as last year.

- Rhule, who ultimately hired this entire Staff, also saw Jeff Simms as a Sunday QB.

- Every team we play ahead is trending somewhat upward.  We are going South.

- There was a lot of smoke coming into today.  Zero points in the 2nd Half against CU.  UNI pushing our line around.  Folding against Illinois.  Zero points in a half on Purdue.  Rutgers' win by the slimmest margin.

- Bye weeks don't seem to make us better.  Off seasons don't seem to make us better.

- Our receivers cannot block or create separation.

- Our RB's have no breakaway potential.

- Hard to see if there's a worse Special Teams in the nation.

- Is anyone coaching Dylan's eyes or footwork?

- Satterfield is the same coach as his prior stops.  Leopards' stripes don't change.  And, see Negative bullet 1...he will be the play caller through the rest of this year.

- What recruits still want to come here?  And why?

A bowl is not a given at this point.  It's bad.

By the way, the game was over when our special teams guru decided to field the football at the one yard line. This player should not see the field ever again. May be that will send a small message to the other geniuses on our outstanding special teams. Of course that was the beginning of the end but the entire team contributed to this embarrassment starting with our genius HC.

It boggles the mind just how bad our defense played in this game. You could tell they were going to put up a lot of points just halfway through the first quarter but this was embarrassing.

We needed a good running back this season and didn't have one. We couldn't have won this game no matter who was calling plays or leading our offense in this one, but it's clear after this game & the Rutgers game that we just can't run the ball well under this staff.
Absolutely correct take. Doesn't matter who is on offense or calling plays if the defense couldn't stop a nosebleed. The most frustrating part is that Indiana did not have a bunch of  exotic or trick plays to put up yards and points on us. They were running some basic plays and we really didn't have an answer for any of it after the first quarter.

Really wish Tony White would have brought more pressure. Only bringing four and playing 8-10 yards off receivers is never a good formula which we seem to revert to quite often. If they're going to dink and dunk us all day, the least we can do is try to get the QB moving his feet and feel some sort of pressure.

I think Raiola is playing to slow. He was praised early in the season about going through his progressions, but sometimes you got to “rip the knob off”. That’s what we used to say when we were booze cruisin in the 90’s.

I know there’s a lot of problems, but I think the offense needs to speed it up.

Correct me if im wrong, but that was Barney. Right?

Does it matter who it was? If you are not smart enough to not put your team in a hole in an away game when your team is down and you need positive plays then may be you should not be on the field. Or May be, just maybe, your special teams coach is an idiot who should be fired because he cannot teach fundamentals. Without consequences, learning will not happen.

It's obvious you have never held a leadership position where outcomes matter and excuses don't.  It's odd that you seek to only criticize the offense yet want to give the defense a pass. The defense has struggled mightily against the 2 best teams we have faced, and we still have to go up against OSU, USC and an improving Wisconsin and UCLA team.
