Who's Leaving? 2024/25 version

A) Butler entered the portal 2 years ago after we hired Rhule

B) Butler said last week he was coming back for 2025

C)  Butler post-game interview after Indiana: "A lot of times when plays don't go our way, we get down on ourselves."

D) He would have been a 6th year senior.  NU's record the last 5 years is 21-35.

I see what you're getting at, and I'm of a similar mind. The upperclassmen that have been with this program for a while...let's just face it, there's not much that can be done with them and having new blood that isn't used to losing would be helpful.

I'm okay with NIL in college. I'm okay with players getting paid. But I want contracts. Does this make me a bad fan?

Right now we have the wild west. Get paid at one school, go to another school get paid, go to another school etc. There needs to be rules to this.

That’s kinda what I was thinking.

I am with you.  Players need to become employees, players need to be able to sign contracts, and players need to collectively bargain.

I’m worried about Umanmielan, Keona Davis, Sua lefotu, Kai wallin, and willis mcgahee.

I don’t want to lose our seniors as well as guys who are the next to step up. Vincent Jackson was gunna play a role next year, so it’s disappointing, hard to say what he could grow into.

Jackson was a syracuse recruit.  With Thompson, that's not a big suprise that 2 would follow the coaches.  All 5 you mentioned are up for starting positions.

Now I’m really scared how many dominoes are about to fall.
So long as it isn’t one of the younger promising guys I’m alright with it. This guys a team leader and openly admitted when the going gets tough the team crumbles- I don’t think there will be that big of a drop off from the younger guys we’ve already seen take the field and it’ll be a positive addition to get guys out of the program that simply don’t have what it takes to win

This isn't a transfer announcement, but FSU is a bad place for White to go when we just hit Florida hard for defensive guys. Not great for us that they potentially have an opportunity to play for the coach that recruited them here but in their home state. Hoping he wasn't the main reason they came here, but it would honestly be pretty surprising if we we able to keep all the Florida guys.

@AlaSker laid out some big names that would be bigger losses for the group, though the biggest need to keep IMO is Riley Van Poppel. Our defense, especially rushing defense, played noticeably better during his four redshirt games this year (UTEP, Colorado, Rutgers, & Iowa).

With the initial signing period beginning Wednesday, I expect at least a few commits to pull back and wait to see how things shake out over the next few weeks. Worst thing for Nebraska to do would be to rush in replacement coaches without thoroughly vetting potential candidates. Would love to see if we found a placement for Bill Busch at some point though (assuming he had any interest).

We had two difference makers on D and they both ran out of eligibility.   Don’t sweat anyone else leaving.   The next DC and HCMR will replace them with another who likely fits their scheme better anyway.  The portal is going to have like 5 thousand players in it.
