We can also attribute the ultimate success and best rushing years of Helu, Rex and Ameer because of QB Taylor Martinez and Tommy Armstrong playing in a Read Option offense.  I mean, some defenses had to account for the QB running threat.  Pretty sure the RBs and QBs did mighty fine off of each other, until they had to pass the ball.    

And then it was no bueno.

Hope he lines them up in the wishbone, but happy for the diamond formation to come. 

The play calling could not be worse, but I wonder about player buy in. He does not seem like a Rhule run the ball guy. Whatever just win a game.

If they don't buy in after the offensive performance pretty much post Colorado, then they need to hit the portal.  @Mavric posted his rankings as an HC.  Looks the years he was most successful there was a solid run game involved.

 
Callahan made a guarded comment this morning on KFAB.

Something like Holgorsen was in the mix previously to coach at Nebraska, but they wouldn't allow him to call plays.  He didn't come right out and say it, but it sure sounded like he was alluding to it.

That seems to be the story.  When he was here before the season, Rhule wanted to bring him on board.  But Holgorsen didn't want a "Co-" OC title.

Just because Dylan gets spooked and is scrambling too much doesn't mean the O line can't block. They improved throughout the year last year and are much better in pass pro this year. In fact, they are currently averaging 1.5 less sacks per game compared to last season.

I agree.  And that is happening with our QB holding the ball for a long time on many long developing routes.  They aren't great but they are serviceable with good play calling imo.

Good and Bad to learn this.
 

Mistake by Rhule to protect his buddy which clearly hindered the development of the offense and wasted a season. Good to bring on a guy who is willing to challenge the HC and not be a yes man.
 

Hopefully it works out best for the players.

Serviceable is the right word! I'm hesitant to say it because of the running game, but I think this line is close to what we had under Cotton/Beck/Pelini. Obviously the rushing numbers are not in the ball park, but I think that's due to our RB room (we don't have an NFL back anywhere on the roster), play calling, and the fact that our jet pass sweeps don't count as rushes.

Si Si, very intrigued.  I can only assume Rhule has a good feel for this situation & Holgorsen is confident because picking up a foreign playbook and calling plays in the span of 2 weeks is a monumental challenge.  It's not knowing the plays, it's knowing what you want instinctively in the endless situations that define games.  I'll be impressed if he doesn't burn several unnecessary TO's and I'll be super impressed if this actually appears seamless.
